What makes Chiropractic Biophysics different?
2022-10-06
Dr. Mike Weiner at Optimal Spine and Body, a chiropractic office in Alpharetta, GA, practices a different type of chiropractic. The technique is called Chiropractic Biophysics. This is an evidence-based approach to correct spinal misalignments and abnormal posture to the correct position. This can help with chronic pain, low back pain, neck pain, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, sports injuries, car crash injuries, whiplash associated disorders, degenerated disc disease, herniated discs, sciatica, radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, dizziness, headaches/migraines, and other health issues. How can Chiropractic Biophysics help with various different health conditions? Chiropractic Biophysics is based on X-ray and postural analysis. Every angle of the spine is measured and compared to where it should be. From there, the type of misalignment of the spine, called a subluxation, is measured and linked to why someone has different health issues. Treatment is based on the X-rays and postural analysis. If someone has reversed neck curve, text neck, military neck, or any other name describing misalignments of the neck for example, then specific exercises, adjustments, and traction are given to the patient to align their spine. These three methods of treatment are the best and most researched ways to fix spinal misalignments/subluxations.Treatment could last anywhere from 3-6 months of 3 times a week in the office doing spinal corrective care to correct the issue. Reexams are done every 12 visits to ensure that correction of health problems is occurring and the posture is correcting. At home devices, called Dennerolls, are given to the patient to do at home to correct their spine while not at the office. At visit 36, X-rays are taken to see if more correction is needed. If there is more spinal changes to be made, then 3 times a week frequency continues. If maximal correction is obtained, then maintenance care of one time per week for 12 visits occurs. Do you feel that this is the type of care you need? Click here to schedule an appointment now. Here is an example of a pre-post X-ray, and what treatment would look like for the patient.Dr. Mike Weiner is certified in Chiropractic Biophysics, has two research case studies in the peer reviewed literature, and has a passion for correcting spinal alignment to improve health. The office is located near downtown Alpharetta, GA. The philosophy of the office is that the body can heal itself, it just needs no interference. Interference of healing occurs when the structure of the spine and spinal cord are away from normal values. Align the spine and spinal cord and this will allow the brain to send signals down the spinal cord through the nerves to every cell, tissue, and organ properly. This will then return health to the patient. This is why Dr. Mike Weiner recommends lifetime care for the patient and why he continues to get adjusted for a lifetime.

Why do I Have Headaches?
2022-10-06
Headaches are a very common symptom that people have. It makes people feel that they can’t concentrate, be in a bad mood, lock themselves in a room with no light or sound, and can most importantly make people feel there is nothing that can be done and it is just their “normal”. The question is does it have to be that way?
I personally believe it does not have to be that way. Most people have headaches and the treatment of choice varies person to person. The traditional approach requires medication to “get rid” of the headache. The unfortunate part is that the medication aims to cover the symptoms. At Optimal Spine and Body, we aim to find what is causing the headaches. Once that cause is corrected, then the dependency for medications disappears. Here are 5 points that Dr. Michael Weiner has noticed about people that have headaches.
1. Headaches can be linked to car crashes and previous traumas
When Dr. Michael Weiner meets with his patients, he finds that ever since a car crash or a trauma such as a fall or sports injury people experience headaches. How can this be? The spine houses the spinal cord, which is connected to the brain and every nerve in the body. When the spine shifts out of place away from normal alignment, this can cause what is known as subluxations. These subluxations, or misalignments of the spine, cause the nerves to not work properly. When that happens, it can cause various symptoms, such as headaches.
Car crashes up to 7 miles per hour can cause subluxations. These subluxations then cause different headaches that people experience. These subluxations have been known to be the cause of many people’s migraines or cervicogenic headaches – which means the headache comes from the cervical spine (neck).
2. Posture is linked to headaches
People sit at desks and look at their phones constantly. This can cause the posture of the head to shift forward and what people call “text neck”. This posture has been known to be stress on the spine, nerves, and muscles. This stress can also trigger certain headaches. These headaches can be pain around the ear or feel like a tight band around the whole head. This is called a tension headache.
3. Stress can cause headaches
People experience a lot of mental stress. This type of stress can then cause a headache to occur. When the body goes through mental stress, this can then cause the nerves and muscles to not work properly and “tighten up”. This happens because people hold their stress around their shoulders and the base of the neck. These stress headaches can cause headaches in the front and behind the head.
4. Headaches can be linked to diet and hydration
A lot of people eat foods that will cause an increase of inflammation in the body. When inflammation occurs, this causes stress on the nerves as well. Inflammation is a normal healing process of the body. When inflammation occurs for an extended period, symptoms can then occur and some people get headaches after eating too much sugar, coffee (or lack of coffee), wine, chocolate, dairy, or other foods. In addition, too many people do not drink enough water. Drinking almost a gallon of water per day can lead to proper hydration and decrease the number of headaches. These headaches occur in distinct regions of the head such as the side, front, and back of the head.
5. Sinus headaches
A lot of people have headaches linked to their sinuses. When there is inflammation in the sinus, this is a sign that the body has a decreased immune system. When this occurs, the sinuses will hold the bacteria in these areas and inflammation occurs. When inflammation occurs in the sinuses, people experience pain around the eyes and forehead that mimic headache-like symptoms.
So, what is the solution?
Many people see Dr. Michael Weiner with these problems. At Optimal Spine and Body, Dr. Michael Weiner will give a detailed exam and take X-rays. What these X-rays show is that the spine – especially the cervical spine (neck) will be misaligned. These misalignments, also called subluxations, cause the symptoms noted above. The main goal is to correct these subluxations. Dr. Michael Weiner is advanced in a specific technique that is different than most other chiropractors. It is called Chiropractic Biophysics. This technique has been proven to make permanent changes in the spine. When this happens, the stress from the nerves goes away and explains why patients do not have headaches after seeing Dr. Michael Weiner.

What is the Best Treatment for Whiplash Injuries?
2022-10-06
Whiplash is a term to describe a type of injury. This is when the head will accelerate and decelerate in very quick motions. This can cause injuries to the head, neck, upper back, and sometimes shoulder. The hardest part about this injury is that some people do not feel symptoms right away but instead feel symptoms months later and sometimes a year later. Below I am going to detail what whiplash really is, what the best treatment for whiplash is, and how Dr. Mike Weiner at Optimal Spine and Body, a chiropractic office in Alpharetta, GA specializes in treatment for this condition. How does someone get whiplash? The most common ways for people to get whiplash is in a motor vehicle crash. Even fender benders up to 7 miles per hour have been shown to cause whiplash injuries. You can also get whiplash injuries from playing sports, falling on the ground with head being pulled backwards, concussion like injuries, and other injuries that make the head rapidly go back and forth. What is whiplash?Whiplash is the rapid movement of the head forward and backward. The neck, upper back, and sometimes shoulder can be impacted in this injury. What is not talked about is how damaging this type of injury is to the joints, discs, ligaments, and muscles of your spine. Whiplash can also change your spinal alignment in an instant because of the amount of force that goes into your spine. Your neck should have a curve from the side called lordosis. Whiplash injuries have been shown to cause a reverse curve in the neck called kyphosis. This injury can cause snap through buckling, individual bones to shift, instability of your spine, angular kyphosis, and global kyphosis. All of this happens because of injuries, such as whiplash. What is the best treatment for whiplash injuries?People that have whiplash injuries should not be treated purely on symptoms. This is because each tissue that is damaged can show symptoms at different times with different intensities. Also, if your muscles tighten up before the trauma, then you will have more symptoms right away. If you did not expect the injury to occur, such as not seeing the care hitting your car, then this will impact more of your ligaments and not cause pain right away. A lot of people that get in car crashes and whiplash traumas do not feel symptoms right away. Instead, it may take months to feel them. Sometimes these injuries can cause numbness and tingling down the hands along with pain down to the shoulders, arms, and hands. This is because the nerves in the neck control your arms and injury from your neck will cause these symptoms even if it was months later. So, what is the best treatment? A treatment that is going to analyze for the structural integrity of your neck. What does that mean? This means that you should go to a doctor that is going to do a thorough exam, neurological exam to assess for your nerves, X-ray analysis, take X-rays of your neck in motion to assess for instabilities and damage to your ligaments, and set up a plan to strengthen your neck, improve the alignment of your neck, and aim to treat the cause of your injuries and not just treat your symptoms. It is the authors opinion, based on countless case studies and research articles, that the best method for the treatment of whiplash injuries is through a chiropractor trained in Chiropractic Biophysics. This is the most evidence based spinal corrective chiropractic technique in the profession. This technique focuses on the analysis of every single structure of the spine and aims to correct the biomechanical problem causing symptoms and the body to not heal properly. If a house is starting to collapse and wear down, the quick fix would be to patch up the work. This will temporarily work until more wear and tear shows again and you have to patch it up again. Wouldnt the better solution be to find out why the building is wearing down in certain areas and fix the structural issue so that the building does not need patch work constantly? It is the same thing for your spine. Bottom line advice: If you get in a car crash, experience whiplash like trauma, see a chiropractor no matter if you have symptoms or not especially one that is trained in Chiropractic Biophysics. This can change your life. Dr. Mike Weiner is a chiropractor in Alpharetta, GA at Optimal Spine and Body. He is certified in Chiropractic Biophysics and combines all different approaches that best suits the patient achieve optimal health. The practice is located near Avalon, Roswell, Main Street Alpharetta, Milton, Cumming, and Johns Creek. Dr. Mike Weiner was also in a car crash in December 2019. He was experiencing little symptoms initially but immediately got treated by chiropractors that practice Chiropractic Biophysics. Because of that treatment and regular chiropractic, he cannot feel any effects of his car crash. This is what motivated him to write this blog to hopefully help at least one more person reading this get the help they need.

What is Spinal Instability?
2022-10-06
People sprain their ankle frequently. In order to heal that sprain, you must rest it and then rehab it back to get back to full function. The more you sprain your ankle, the more chance that you will continue to injure your ankle and lead to permanent pain and problems. The reason for this is because ligaments that hold the ankle in place get stretched and damaged. Did you know that you can also damage your ligaments in your spine? What can cause this?
- Motor vehicle crashes
- Sports injuries
- Concussions
- Poor posture while working
- Forward head position
- Reversed neck curve
- Genetics

Motor vehicle crashesSports injuriesConcussionsPoor posture while workingForward head positionReversed neck curveGeneticsWhat does this do to your health? People that have injured ligaments in their spine will have increased chance of chronic neck pain, chronic low back pain, chronic middle back pain, and other chronic pain issues. The reason for this is because the muscles have to contract to hold the unstable spine in place. This will lead to constant muscle pain that will lead people to think that they need a massage or manipulation of the spine. This will lead to temporarily relief as the issue was not addressed. This leads to frustration, feeling hopeless about the condition, and dependency on medication, chiropractic, and massage to get through the day. Do you want to get check for spinal instablities? Click here to schedule to be a new patient. Other symptoms that are even worse for patients include vertigo, migraines/headaches, numbness/tingling down the arms and hands, pain down the arms and hands, chronic fatigue, insomnia, sleep issues, anxiety, increased stress, decreased immune system, chronic illnesses, depression, brain fog, and other issues. The reason for this is because when the upper part of the spine is unstable, this will change nerve signals back to the brain. When the nerve signals get changed, then symptoms may develop. This is why Dr. Mike Weiner practice Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP). This is a different chiropractic technique that focuses on analyzing, detecting, and correcting spinal misalignments - called subluxations - that decrease nerve function and lead to chronic health problems. Dr. Mike Weiner is a chiropractor in Alpharetta, GA that practices at Optimal Spine and Body. He helps patients that have been to other chiropractors before and did not get the help they needed. It is the philosophy of the office to align the spine to regain health for a lifetime. If you want different health results - you need different care. This is what we advocate at Optimal Spine and Body.

What Can I Do for My Neck Curve?
2022-10-06
People are now aware that their posture can change the alignment of the neck. The question is what you do for it. If you have a straight neck or what is called text neck or military neck then there must be a solution to fix this. These are the steps I do to help people with bad posture that causes the neck to lose its normal alignment.
- Check posture.
- Take X-rays
- Take X-ray with corrective procedure
- Use the cervical Denneroll at home

Mirror Image™ Chiropractic Adjustments
2022-10-06
Chiropractic adjustments, defined by Chiropractic Biophysics technique, are any force applied to the spine and body that shift the structure towards an ideal alignment and function to restore nervous system function. Dr. Mike Weiner at Optimal Spine and Body practices Chiropractic Biophysics an evidence-based chiropractic technique focused on correcting spinal misalignments and posture into the correct position to improve health. What is the difference between a traditional chiropractic adjustment and an adjustment done with Chiropractic Biophysics called mirror image adjustments. Traditional chiropractic adjustments: There are numerous types of adjustments that chiropractors learn in chiropractic college. The typical chiropractic adjustment is by the use of the chiropractors hands to apply a force to the joints of the spine and/or extremities (joints outside the spine) to improve the mobility and function of the joint complex. This in turn will essentially lead to a reset of the nervous system. A patient will feel relief, decrease in muscle tension, increased mobility of the joints, and even improvements in organ function since all the nerves connect to every tissue and organ in the body. Chiropractors can also use instruments such as an activator. This is an instrument designed to move the spine faster than the muscles can contract. Drop table techniques are also used. This is when the force is applied to a region of the spine or pelvis and the table will drop so that the force is absorbed into the table not the patient. All of these different ways to adjust the spine are common with traditional chiropractic. Dr. Mike Weiner utilizes these techniques in his office at Optimal Spine and Body in Alpharetta, GA to improve the functionality of joints, decrease pain, decrease muscle tension, improve mobility, and decrease various different symptoms such as headaches, migraines, numbness, tingling, stomach issues, digestive issues, and others. Mirror image chiropractic adjustments are designed to shift the spine into a more normal and ideal alignment. Traditional chiropractic adjustments have not been shown to change the alignment of the spine through X-rays. This is because traditional chiropractic adjustments aim to improve mobility and functionality of the joints and spine not the structure and postural alignment. To improve the structure and alignment of the spine, the body region needs to be placed in the opposite position called mirror image position and then a force will be applied to hold the spine into that position. If someone is shifted backwards in the middle and lower back, then the patient will lay on a block on their back. A force will be applied to the pelvis with a drop table. This will then push the spine into the opposite position and when this is done repetitively, the posture will start to align into the opposite position. Dr. Mike Weiner is certified in Chiropractic Biophysics and uses Mirror Image chiropractic adjustments to align the spine and posture into the correct position. This is what makes Optimal Spine and Body different. Dr. Mike Weiner practices in Alpharetta, GA.

How-To Guide to Solve Your Allergies
2022-10-06
Allergies plague many people – especially in the greater Atlanta region. The question is why do people have allergies when other people do not? Allergies are your body’s response to what is seen as a foreign substance. Your body sees this and reacts in different ways. Some people wheeze, tear up, get congested, get sinus infections, and worse off depend on an epi pen and/or antihistamine drugs to save their life. What if there was a way to get rid of your allergies for good? Below are outlines of how Dr. Mike Weiner helps people who suffer from allergies.
Most drinks today have sugar or sugar additives. These can cause inflammation in the body. Inflammation decreases the immune system by weighing on your body. Imagine you have a police force of 10 people in a certain area. If there is no crime, the policemen are not busy and can be on patrol. The more crime, the more demand for the police officers. If the crime reaches too high of a number, the police officers will be overwhelmed and eventually crime will be rampant in the town. Inflammation is crime and the police officers are your immune cells. Decrease inflammation by decreasing sugar and let your body’s defense do the rest.
Proinflammatory foods contain Omega-6. This is found in the skin of meats and vegetable oils. Cook with extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil and remove the skin of meats. Cutting high sugar foods like bread, muffins, bars to snack on, and anything else that has excess sugar in it have the same positive effect. On top of that, supplement with omega-3 fats like wild caught salmon, green leafy vegetables, and whole food vegetables.
Sleep at the same time every night, eliminate screen time late at night, and set a scheduled sleep time. This will increase the quality of sleep, allow proper rest of your body, and will allow your body to repair, recharge, and boost the immune system.
The neck from the side should have a curve in it. The absence of a curve will put tension on the spinal cord and nerves. The nerves in your body control the immune system response. When the curve is restored through advanced, chiropractic techniques such as Chiropractic Biophysics, then the immune system can boost to defend against foreign substances – causing allergies.
Dr. Mike Weiner of Optimal Spine and Body practices this every day himself. He has no allergies himself and when his patients follow these easy steps, they find that allergies become a thing of the past. Patients at Optimal Spine and Body often find they throw away their medication because they do not depend on them anymore.

How do I Correct My Scoliosis?
2022-10-06
Scoliosis is a tough condition to have. Young female teenagers are the most common type of person to get scoliosis. The scoliosis curve can rapidly increase, cause chronic pain, can cause the posture to be altered, and what is the saddest is make people not like who they see in the mirror.
The traditional medical approach to scoliosis is the “wait and see” approach. They measure the curve and then tell you to wait and come back and if the curve increases to a certain amount. Then they will want to do surgery if the curve increased too much. If you want to avoid hardware in your spine for a lifetime, this can change your life, your children’s life, and other people you may know that have scoliosis’s life.
To know if someone has scoliosis, an X-ray needs to be taken. That is the only way to know the alignment of the spine. From there, I would measure every angle and determine the amount of curve and compare it to the person’s posture from the outside.
Just because someone has a curve in their spine does not tell you why they have scoliosis. It just means there is over 10 degrees of curve. Through a proper exam, postural evaluation, and X-ray analysis, this can be determined. These are common causes that Dr. Mike Weiner sees in his office regularly: anatomical short leg, anatomical sacral insufficiency, postural shifts to the right/left, genetic bone height differences, buckling of the spine (seen in older patients more), spinal cord issues, rotations of the spine independent of the posture, and other causes too. Once the cause is identified, then and only then can proper treatment be done to correct the curve.
Once the cause is found, then X-rays and exams need to be done to assess for how correctable the curve is. If there is a short leg, then I would take an X-ray of someone standing on a lift to see if it balances out the legs and sacrum (foundation of the spine). Then I would test to see if a corrective movement/exercise will correct the spine. Once that is identified, that is what the patient does in office and at home to correct the curve. Lastly, I test to see if a certain corrective traction (a force into the spine intended to correct spinal misalignments such as scoliosis) will align the spine. Once these are done, then treatment with realistic expectations can be made.
In my office, a combined approach of spinal adjustments, postural corrective exercises, and spinal remodeling traction is used to retrain the spine, ligaments, muscles, and nervous system to hold into a new position. This is done repeatedly in office based on how correctable the spine is. At home, the patient is trained on using certain traction devices, called Dennerolls, and exercises to do at home to continue getting spinal alignment changes.
At the completion of a treatment plan, X-rays will be taken to monitor progress. Even if a patient’s curve still needs surgery after treatment, there are reports of patients having better surgical outcomes when this approach is taken before surgery.
Dr. Mike Weiner is a chiropractor in Alpharetta, Georgia. He is the owner and lead chiropractor of Optimal Spine and Body. He practices Chiropractic Biophysics and is certified in the technique. Do not be told that there is nothing that can be done to correct your scoliosis. Find every way possible to correct it. It will be the best life changing decision you will ever make.
- Take an X-ray
To know if someone has scoliosis, an X-ray needs to be taken. That is the only way to know the alignment of the spine. From there, I would measure every angle and determine the amount of curve and compare it to the person’s posture from the outside.
- Find out what is causing the scoliosis
- Test to see if the scoliosis can change
- Treatment and at home treatment
In my office, a combined approach of spinal adjustments, postural corrective exercises, and spinal remodeling traction is used to retrain the spine, ligaments, muscles, and nervous system to hold into a new position. This is done repeatedly in office based on how correctable the spine is. At home, the patient is trained on using certain traction devices, called Dennerolls, and exercises to do at home to continue getting spinal alignment changes.
- Retake X-rays and postural analysis
At the completion of a treatment plan, X-rays will be taken to monitor progress. Even if a patient’s curve still needs surgery after treatment, there are reports of patients having better surgical outcomes when this approach is taken before surgery.

Disc Herniations: What are the Main Causes and Best Treatment?
2022-10-06
Having a disc herniation can cause pain the low back, down the legs, numbness and tingling in the legs, and can lead to chronic problems that don’t resolve by themselves. Typical treatments for a disc herniation are steroid and/or epidural shots to numb the symptoms. This will lead to possible pain relief for 3 – 6 months maximally. The reason for this is that those shots mask the symptoms instead of getting at the root cause of the problem.
What makes treatment hard for disc herniation is the fact that the problem happened way before the symptoms occurred. When symptoms occur, it almost feels like it is too late to get good treatment. These are people that pick up a pencil and when they come back up, the muscles in their back tighten up so much that it can literally knock people on the floor. Below I outline the main causes to disc herniations that I see in my practice on a regular basis.
The lumbar spine should have a curve that outlines an ellipse. This ellipse has more curve in the lower lumbar spine (L4/5, L5/S1 – which is the most common disc herniation location). Decreasing the curve causes more stress and strain away from the joints and onto the cushion that holds the vertebrae together. This is called the lumbar disc. More pressure on the disc causes the annular fibers – the tough strong material holding the cushion together - to break down. When this breaks down, then the soft part inside – called the nucleus pulposus – that is more jelly like will start to come out. When this comes out, this can press on the nerves right behind it. This is what causes pain/numbness tingling in the thighs, leg, and feet and usually does not get better by itself.
When people’s middle part of their spine shifts backward, this will also decrease the lower back curve. This will cause the same problems listed above
People that constantly compress the spine – such as in football when people tackle each other – cause small injuries to the disc. This can lead to the same problems outlined above.
People lose the ability to squat due to sitting constantly. This will lead to improper movement of the low back. When the low back moves in a way away from normal, this will lead to overuse injuries to the muscles, joints, discs, ligaments, and other structures. This can also lead to the problems outlined above.
These are 4 main causes of disc herniation that I see in the office constantly. This will not be said by other health providers. Why? Because usually what is blamed are the effects – tight muscles, old age, disc degeneration, spinal arthritis, “normal aging”, runs in my family, tight piriformis muscle, weak core, etc.
The best treatment: chiropractic care that focuses on correcting the misalignment of the spine – most often decreased lumbar curve. The best way to do that is through Chiropractic Biophysics, which is the technique mastered by Dr. Mike Weiner at Optimal Spine and Body.
The question is why do people have these problems? The other question is if you could take control of your disc herniation, would you want that? Dr. Mike Weiner had a disc herniation when was 10 years old. He always had chronic low back issues. When X-rays were taken, he had both a mid-back shifting backward and decreased lumbar curve. With specific care addressed on correcting the low back curve (lumbar spine) by applying Chiropractic Biophysics, he has successfully been able to fix the root cause. He currently never struggles with lower back pain ever since. What was he told by other people – it is just tight muscles, stretch more, use heat/cold, just be careful when bending, it’s the way it will always be, etc. He doesn’t believe that must be an option. If you agree with that, what are you waiting for? Call 770 274 4840 to schedule a consultation to see what Dr. Mike Weiner can do with his different chiropractic care called Chiropractic Biophysics.

Best Way to Treat Sciatica and Herniated Discs Naturally
2022-10-06
Sciatica is a tough condition that will cause pain down the gluteal (butt) region, thigh, and sometimes even down below the knee. When that happens, it can be more severe for the person. I want to detail here how specific spinal traction can align the spine and can help with sciatica. Lumbar (low back) extension (leaning back) traction helps with sciaticaResearch has shown that sciatica can be caused by straightening or loss of the lumbar curve or alignment. When this happens, this will put more tension on the nerves, ligaments, and muscles, and discs. When the lumbar disc has too much pressure on it over time, it may start to break down and eventually herniate. When herniated discs occur, this may feel like it is pinching on the nerves. This herniated disc will cause pain down the thigh, gluteal region, and leg. This may also cause numbness/tingling in the feet and will leave you with a pins and needle sensation. What is the fix?The fix is to align the spine into its proper position by specific X-ray analysis and a treatment that focuses on correcting the lumbar spine alignment into its right position. When this is done, it has been shown to increase nerve function, decrease pain down the leg, decrease sciatic pain, decrease herniated disc pain, decrease low back pain, and more importantly get your life back. A research paper has shown that patients that got their spinal alignment corrected by specific lumbar extension traction, the nerve function improved, pain improved, and it the improvement became permanent. The group that did not get their spine corrected, had the same exact sciatica pain, herniated disc pain, leg pain, gluteal pain, and low back pain they had before starting treatment (1). The only technique that has been shown to correct the lumbar spine alignment is Chiropractic Biophysics. This is the most research and evidenced based chiropractic technique to fix problems said above. In the research paper, Chiropractic Biophysics technique was used. My advice: find a chiropractor that practices Chiropractic Biophysics. You can search for doctors that specialize in this technique at www.idealspine.com under the patient directory. Living with sciatica, herniated discs, and low back pain is no way to live your life. Chiropractic Biophysics could be your solution you have been searching for. Asthma - Is It Something I'll Have for the Rest of My Life?
2022-10-06
Asthma is a scary diagnosis to happen. This is when the bronchioles, which are the small tubes of air that deliver oxygen to your body, constrict. This can happen because of inflammation, an allergic reaction, exercise, and outside smoke/chemicals. Some even say that the rate of asthma is increasing even in adults especially in urban areas (1). For this blog, I will discuss how chiropractic can help and how Dr. Mike Weiner has seen patients improve that have had chronic asthma especially ever since birth. First, how is possible that chiropractic can help with asthma? Chiropractic is founded on the principle that nerves control every function of the body. The spine houses the spinal cord, the highway for the nerves, that travel to/from the brain to/from the organs, tissues, cells, muscles, skin, etc. Through trauma birth trauma, motor vehicle crash, sports injuries, falls, postural distortions the spine can shift. These shifts are called subluxations and can be measured by X-rays. When subluxations occur, the spinal cord goes under tension, the nerves alter their function, and the signal is altered thus changing the message. This can cause inflammation, decreased nerve signal, pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, and specifically to asthma, inability of airways to be open for breathing. This will then cause the bronchioles to constrict, inflame, and cause asthma. The question is can chiropractic help? Dr. Mike Weiner sees how chiropractic helps all the time in his practice from children that have bronchiolitis, exercise induced asthma, allergy induced asthma, and having a hard time breathing. Research supports this as well. Through chiropractic care compared to not receiving chiropractic care, children and teenagers reported a reduction of an inhaler, increased quality of life, and a reduction of asthma severity. These results were maintained without chiropractic care for a year (2). What does this mean? This means that children with chiropractic care did not rely on their inhalers as much. Thats decreased dependency. Thats more of a pathway towards freedom of their body and strength. Nothing is worse than feeling weak especially as a child when you could be judged by others during the most influential time of development. If you are looking for a different type of treatment for asthma, it could make sense that nothing makes it better without drugs/inhaler. Find out if your spine and nerves could be contributing to your asthma to live optimally for a lifetime. About the author: Dr. Mike Weiner is a chiropractor that specializes in Chiropractic Biophysics, a very different type of chiropractic that is the most researched and evidence-based technique in the profession. His office is in Alpharetta, GA and called Optimal Spine and Body.

5 Common Causes of Sciatica
2022-10-06
What really is sciatica and why do I have it?Sciatica refers to the pain that you feel when the sciatic nerve is inflamed and/or there is a problem with that nerve. The sciatic nerve comes from the spine and more specifically the low back. Below are 5 common reasons why someone may have pain coming from this region.1. Disc herniation/bulgeThe disc is the cushion in between each are of the spine. Injury to the disc can happen suddenly or even over time. This can occur even when bending over to pick up a pencil. When this happens, it can put pressure on the nerve the sciatic nerve. This can cause pain in the low back, butt, thigh, back of leg, and even the feet. 2. Tight musclesThe sciatic nerve passes by different muscles. One of them is called the piriformis muscle. When the piriformis muscle is tight, the sciatic nerve may be impinged and/or inflamed. This can cause pain in the butt, thigh, leg, and feet. When this happens, you may or may not have low back pain associated with it. 3. Short leg and abnormal postureAround 90% of the population has an anatomical short leg. When this happens, it leads to an imbalance in the posture and spine just like how the leaning tower of Pisa is slanted because the foundation is off. This can lead to one side being tighter than the other, causing pressure on the muscles, joints, and even the nerves. This can cause sciatic pain. Also, people have different postures such as a sway back (when people lean backwards), scoliosis, and even shifts to the right or left side. This will cause the same issue.4. Reversed lumbar (low back) curveThe lumbar spine (low back) is supposed to have a curve to it. People that have decreased curve have an increased chance of having low back pain and even sciatica. When the spine is going in the opposite direction, it will pull on the nerves. The nerves all stem back to the spine and when they are pulled on, they will get inflamed and will cause pain going down the butt, leg, and even to the feet. 5. Forward head position AKA text neckWhen the head shifts forward, it causes the muscles in the low back to stiffen to hold the head. It is like when you hold a bowling ball out in front of you. It is much harder to hold it further away from you than close to your body. Also, when the neck goes forward, it causes all the nerves in the spine to tighten up even the sciatic nerve. Reference:

5 Ways to Decrease Stress
2022-10-06
People experience stress all the time – financial stress, work stress, family stress, physical stress, and so much more. I have had patients have numerous symptoms disappear when they stopped working at their stressful job. I have had patients where they started to practice morning routines and felt more in control with their life and were able to sleep better. I do these 5 steps myself and it allows me to be a better father, husband, and chiropractor to my patients.
You are your routines. Set a routine in the morning and follow it. Make it easy. You can do affirmations, which are phrases you say to yourself every single day. Wake up, look in the mirror and say something positive about yourself and repeat it 3 times. I say I am smart, I am successful, I am a leader, and I am a great chiropractor. Pick something yourself, say it every day before you do anything, and I guarantee your day will be improved.
Every day, drink 24 ounces of water the first thing you do. Most people are dehydrated, which can lead to stress. Chug a large glass of water before you eat anything each day. Most people eat when they are stressed too and are not healthy foods. If you add vegetables – carrots, celery, sweet potato, spinach, etc. as your first meal of the day you will notice you are not as hungry, have more focus, and will feel much more confident about your day.
Most people immediately go on social media and/or check emails to start your day. This could lead to comparing yourself to others and letting outside things control your day. Before you leave your house, do not check social media or emails at all. They can wait. This will allow your mind to focus on what really matters so you can control your day.
Set 10 minutes in the morning to get outside and go for a walk. Do not bring your phone. This will allow you to have a clear mind, get physical activity in, and allow you to refresh yourself. Walk at a brisk walking pace to increase activity, loosen up your body, and add in stretching too.
I get treated and adjusted regularly with chiropractic. This is the best way to reset your body. Chiropractic adjustments not only make people feel better but allow your body to heal optimally. I notice with myself and patients that people report they sleep better, get sick less often, are less stressed, and are more connected with what truly matters in life.
Do these 5 easy steps to live a life with the least amount of stress. Dr. Mike Weiner is the author of this blog and practices chiropractic in Alpharetta, GA near main street and Avalon at Optimal Spine and Body. His chiropractic approach is different than most other chiropractors and he practices Chiropractic Biophysics. This is the most research and evidence-based chiropractic technique that focuses on correcting abnormal spinal alignment and posture into its correct position. This has been shown to improve nerve function and help people heal from physical stress they encounter throughout the day. This technique could be the answer to a lot of people’s health concerns and gets people on track to live optimally for a lifetime. Whether you have symptoms such as low back pain, neck pain, herniated discs, stenosis, sleep problems, digestive issues, allergies, decreased immune system, asthma, shoulder pain, hip pain, knee pain, low energy, or no symptoms at all, Chiropractic Biophysics helps patients live a healthier life without the use of medications.

Before you leave your house, do not check social media or emails at all. They can wait. This will allow your mind to focus on what really matters so you can control your day.
- Get outside and walk
Set 10 minutes in the morning to get outside and go for a walk. Do not bring your phone. This will allow you to have a clear mind, get physical activity in, and allow you to refresh yourself. Walk at a brisk walking pace to increase activity, loosen up your body, and add in stretching too.
- Get chiropractic adjustments
I get treated and adjusted regularly with chiropractic. This is the best way to reset your body. Chiropractic adjustments not only make people feel better but allow your body to heal optimally. I notice with myself and patients that people report they sleep better, get sick less often, are less stressed, and are more connected with what truly matters in life.
Do these 5 easy steps to live a life with the least amount of stress. 4 Tips to Help with Tension in the Neck and Upper Back
2022-10-06
Tension occurs from sitting too long, poor posture, previous traumas, and from looking down too much. It may seem like you are in a never-ending battle between working and reading and pain and tension in the upper back, neck, and head. Below, I am going to go over what I do myself and what I tell my patients to do to decrease tension and improve posture.
Setting a timer for 30 minutes allows you to not sit for that long. When that timer goes off, that means you stop what you are doing, get up, and do stretches, exercises, squats, pushups, etc. to get your body moving. Your brain has a hard time retaining newer information after 25-30 minutes anyway and this is a good thing to do no matter what you are doing to increase productivity and being more alert.
I am going to detail how to do a great stretch for the muscles that are too tight from sitting too long. I am going to choose the right side for explaining purposes. When done with one side, do the stretches on the other side.
Hold this stretch for 10-20 seconds when you feel tension while breathing in for 3 seconds and out for 3 seconds. Repeat on other side.
This will be an exercise to strengthen your postural muscles that are weak on most people. You should be feeling this exercise in the middle part of your back right below your shoulder blades and behind your shoulders. You should also feel your muscles contract in the front of your neck right below your chin. You want to hold this for 3 – 5 seconds and do this for 10 times. If you feel these behind your upper neck or in the upper part of your shoulders and back stop and reach out to me to make sure you are doing this correctly. Here are the details to do this:
Do these exercises together. You will notice almost immediately how your posture improves, your mood will improve, and you will much stronger in general.
The best way to improve your posture is through specific chiropractic care that focuses on improving your nervous system. The nerves control your muscles and when they function normally, then tension and pain can be eliminated. Specific exercises can be given to you to strengthen the weak postural muscles and specific traction to hold your spine in the correct position will then be given to align your spine and posture in the correct position.
These are great stretches and exercises to be doing every day. You may notice that this will help with your tension headaches, tension in the shoulders/neck/upper back, and your posture. If you are doing these stretches and exercises and you notice sharp pain, an increase in headaches, pain in the upper part of the back of your neck, numbness or pain in the hands, dizzy, feeling of nausea, or any other “weird” symptoms STOP IMMEDIATELY. I want you to email me at admin@optimalspineandbody.com, call my office at 770 274 4840 for a free consultation, or send me a private message on Instagram or Facebook at “optimal spine and body”. I will guide you to do these correctly.
This can also indicate that you have a structural issue in your neck or upper back caused by trauma such as car crashes, sports injuries, or improper alignment and posture. These misalignments of the spine, called subluxations, can cause a decrease of your health and possible symptoms like migraines, headaches, chronic pain, herniated discs, spinal arthritis, and reversed neck curve. These need to be analyzed by a proper history, exam, and X-ray with a detailed plan to correct these underlying issues.
Dr. Mike Weiner (the author of this blog) specializes in correcting subluxations and misalignments of the spine. I give out specific exercises to do at home, specific homecare devices called dennerolls to improve your posture and alignment, and specific adjustments to be done in the office to correct these issues.

- Turn your head now to the right (while your ear is toward your shoulder).

7 Ways to Boost Your Immune System
2022-10-06
Boosting your immune system does not have to be that difficult. You can do easy steps starting now to live a healthy lifestyle. This is everything that Dr. Mike Weiner tells his patients and what he does every day. If you start this today, you will notice more energy, better wellbeing, and more importantly, a better immune system to be able to fight off any illness. The nervous system and immune system are linked together and these tips will quickly boost your immune system for optimal health.
Buy foods that cannot come out of a box. Buy carrots, spinach, kale, lettuce, Brussel sprouts, peppers, potatoes, squash, fruits and more. Avoid grains and sugars such as most cereals, bread, sugary drinks like soda, and anything that is processed. You can lightly cook these vegetables with extra virgin olive oil and even bake them lightly for better taste while still preserving the nutrients.
A large part of the immune system is in our gut where we digest food. Eating the proper foods for our body allow our body to digest everything properly. Eating vegetables has different vitamins and nutrients to decrease inflammation (cause disease) and improve the nervous system and immune system together.
Sleep at around the same time every night and get minimally 8 hours of sleep per night. Sleep is when the body heals and allows the immune system to rest and be ready to function properly throughout the day. Avoid looking at TV, computer, and phone screens late at night to allow you to get the proper sleep cycles. Getting outside for 15 minutes a day
Getting sunlight gives us the proper vitamin D for the day. Vitamin D is great at boosting the immune system. If you can’t do that, supplement with vitamin D droplets you can get at any food store.
Drinking water – especially filtered water – is essential for overall health. Drink 24 ounces in the morning before you start your day, then 24 ounces in the middle of the day, and 24 ounces at the end of the day. Your urine color should be light yellow or mostly clear. That is how you know you have hydrated to the full amount.
This will allow increased blood flow to the body, help the heart, your vessels, and improve mood, which all help with the immune system. Do this at a brisk walking pace and that will increase your health. You can add more strenuous exercise, yoga, stretching, and other activities to help boost your immune system.
Wake up every day and say something you are grateful for. This will allow you to think more positively. Positive thoughts can allow your body to produce feel good hormones and allow proper healing. Start by saying 1 thing you are grateful for each morning.
I have seen patients that do not get sick as often, don’t have allergies anymore, eliminate sinus infections, and have greater energy through regular chiropractic care. My treatment consists of postural adjustments, exercises, and specific traction to improve the body’s alignment. Improving spinal and postural alignment improves the nervous system, which is linked to the immune system. There is something called the neuro-endocrine-immune system that controls the body. When these function properly, the body can heal properly
A patient that I just started treating followed these steps I have outlined. She was getting sick once every month and had to call out of work and felt her body was breaking down. After lifestyle changes and correcting the curve in her neck along with her posture, she has not been sick yet. She feels she has more energy, people have noted that her mood is better, and more importantly she feels much better about her body.
Through chiropractic care and lifestyle changes, you can achieve a healthier lifestyle. Even myself have found that I am not affected by allergies for the first year ever after focusing on correcting my cervical (neck) curve. I have noticed more energy and feel much better about myself.
I also can give people exercises at home for their posture along with specific devices to correct your spinal alignment. I do these every day to improve my posture, spinal alignment, and health. My patients do these every day too and therefore they notice they do not get sick often. Chiropractic care can be very beneficial to overall health, the nervous system, and the immune system.
Start these today and your health will improve drastically.

3 Ways to Improve Lumbar Alignment to Help with Sciatica and Herniated Discsted discs
2022-10-06
When there is pain that shoots down the gluteal region, thigh, leg and possibly feet and toes, this is commonly thought to be sciatica. What this may actually be is called radiculopathy due to a herniated disc. When faced with pain down the legs, sciatica, or herniated disc, the question is what is the best solution to fix this problem.
Herniated discs are caused by abnormal wear and tear on the disc. This can cause sciatica, radiculopathy, and low back pain. This can be caused by abnormal spinal alignment and posture. In order to correct spinal alignment, I will outline 3 ways to change spinal alignment that I do in my office.
What exactly does this mean? There is supposed to be an elliptical cure in the lumbar spine with more curve on the bottom of the spine and less in the upper part of the low back - called the lumbar spine. Through X-ray analysis, this can be measured. A decrease of the lumbar cure and backwards shift (sway back) posture will cause more pressure on the low back (lumbar) discs. When there is more pressure on the discs, then this can cause a herniated disc, sciatica, and radiculopathy - which is low back pain and pain down the legs and feet.
In order to correct low back spinal alignment, there needs to be a force applied to the spine at the right angle to get curve in the low back (lumbar spine). This is called 3 point bending traction and this is what Dr. Mike Weiner at Optimal Spine and Body, a chiropractic office in Alpharetta, GA does to help patients with sciatica, herniated discs, radiculopathy, and chronic low back pain. Dr. Mike Weiner practices Chiropractic Biophysics, an evidenced based approach to correct spinal alignment and posture to improve health.
You can email admin@optimalspineandbody.com or call 770 274 4840 to request a free consultation to see if Dr. Mike Weiner can help you with sciatica, herniated discs, chronic low back pain, and radiculopathy.
2. Lumbar extension exercises
When there is a decrease in the lumbar curve causing sciatica, herniated discs, radiculopathy, or low back pain, then certain exercises can help with improving spinal alignment. Lumbar extension exercises are used to extend the lumbar spine into the proper position, take pressure off the discs, and improve sciatica symptoms. At home, you can get a foam roller, keep your pelvis on the floor, and extend over the foam roller over different parts of your spine to accomplish this. While sitting at work, you can put a towel or pillow behind your low back and squeeze your shoulder blades together to extend your low back and improve symptoms.
3. Specific adjustments to improve joint mobility and improve the nervous system
This is the only one you cannot try to do yourself. You will need to go to a chiropractor that specializes in adjusting the spine through instruments such as an activator, drop table, or by hand. Specific adjustments to the spine improve joint mobility, decrease symptoms of sciatica, herniated discs, radiculopathy, and low back pain, and most importantly improve the nervous system. The nerves come out of the spinal cord out to every cell, tissue, and organ in the body. An adjustment improves the nerve function by improving the biomechanics of the spine, which is tied to how nerves function. This will decrease symptoms and even improve other areas of your health. There are specific adjustments for the posture, called mirror image adjustments - that are specific to the Chiropractic Biophysics technique that Dr. Mike Weiner practices. This is an adjustment that has been shown to improve abnormal posture.

This has been shown to help patients with sciatica, herniated discs, radiculopathy, and low back pain find a permanent solution to achieve optimal health for a lifetime.
Dr. Mike Weiner had a herniated disc when he was 10 years old. He has received chiropractic care his whole life because his father is a chiropractor. It is because of chiropractic that he was able to be active, not take medication, and be a 3 sport athlete in high school and still enjoy playing sports today.
Dr. Mike Weiner has a decreased lumbar curve and reversed at some points. Chiropractic Biophysics has helped him never have to worry about experiencing sciatica, radiculopathy, or low back pain that he struggled with his whole life. This is what motivates him to get every person as healthy as possible.
